Something cool is happening every weekend in the old Bajes from the 22nd of June to the 23rd of July. It is the Maaltuin, a pop-up restaurant. Enjoy a unique evening out this summer, a mere stone’s throw away from our hotel! 

The Bijlmerbajes, a former prison, is the newest location of traveling restaurant De Maaltuin. Indulge in a delicious 5-course dinner paired with exquisite wines, whilst discovering the fascinating history of the Netherlands’ first social prison.

This immersive experience takes you on a journey of rehabilitation and redemption for those who had lost their way. But don’t be fooled by the prison’s noble mission: over 100 daring inmates attempted to make a run for it, using anything from linked bedsheets to a billiard table hurled out of a window, and even impersonating officers of the law! The Bijlmerbajes is a place full of captivating stories just waiting to be told.

Great Place

Staying here now for 2 months and will definitely extend as long as possible. Great place full of amazing people. The location is perfect for walks in nature and not too far from the city centre. They also serve great food in the restaurant downstairs, I haven’t cooked once. Highly recommended.
