So you’ve booked your stay at Hotel Jansen and now you’re ready to explore the city? Let’s start with the Hotel Jansen neighbourhood. We have plenty of nice hotspots in our neighbourhood from cute gift shops to the best coffee bars and restaurants! We’ve selected a few:
Amsterdam South’s best coffee place is Drovers Dog. An “Australian Gourmet Cafe ‘with an uncomplicated, down-under atmosphere is how you could best describe DroversDog. The relaxed atmosphere and laid-back service make a surprising combination with the amazing kitchen – which in a high level or refined cooking is achieved. Cocktails with your lunch? Check. A massive ‘deluxe’ grilled cheese sandwich with your latte soy? Check. Drovers Dog is a coffee bar that cares about serving good food, and that’s a golden combination. Not just a croissant, but if you want you can have proper food here. Most coffee bars around the world do not do much with food, and most restaurants do not worry about coffee. DroversDog is a hybrid, and an unusual one. It’s really two businesses in the same place; they have this whole robust coffee culture, and they have this refined kitchen culture. And it’s all under the same roof. The place is spacious so even when it’s busy (it’s busy a lot) there is almost always a table free. Yaay!
Gifted is the place to shop presents: funny cards, fashion and interior accessories, kitchen stuff and funny books & chocolate, Gifted has it all. You can also drink a coffee (to go) or sit on the mini terrace when the weather is good enough. The only thing about this store is that sometimes there is nothing suitable for what you have in mind, and sometimes there is plenty! Anyways, a good option if you’re in need of a last minute present!
Van Mechelen is Belgian Beer Cafe de Zotte and Genk aan de Schinkel’s big brother: so expect good beer, all day food and a lovely atmosphere. This place is a bit nicer to go for dinner than your average cafe. Industerial design with classic dishes that are made from local products.
Popup restaurant Baut Zuid is not your average pop-up location. As it looks like now they’re only open till December 2015, but you never know. Baut used to be a location in Amsterdam East and after they already declared the end of Baut East various times, it happend months later. So who knows. Good food, fun organized drinks and events and a spacious atmosphere, Baut is something you should definitly check out!
